Total Joint Replacement Homecare Program

Apismellis Homecare offers a personalized total joint replacement program for individuals who are preparing to undergo total joint replacement surgery including total knee or hip replacement. This program includes individualized consultation, evaluation, education, and treatment from both a physical therapist and an occupational therapist. Our total joint replacement program includes home visits throughout the recovery process. With this total joint replacement program, individuals can maximize their recovery after any type of total joint replacement surgery.

Participating in a joint replacement program prior to undergoing total joint replacement and immediately following the procedure can have a positive effect on the surgery results. Total joint replacement programs provide important education and treatment that can result in a shorter length inpatient stay immediately following surgery and can reduce 6-month follow-up complications. Therefore, Apismellis Homecare recommends that patients who are preparing for a total joint replacement follow a total joint replacement program both before and after surgery to achieve the best results.

What is a Total Joint Replacement Program?

At Apismellis Homecare, our total joint replacement program is personalized specifically to meet the needs of each patient, but typically includes homecare visits and treatment from occupational and physical therapists both before and after surgery. Your multidisciplinary team of therapists from Apismellis Homecare will be well educated and experienced. They will be available to provide education and information to the patient and family members both before and after surgery. Throughout the total joint replacement program, our homecare therapists will develop and execute an individualized program to meet your needs.

Our total joint replacement program is structured with the following steps:

  • Step 1 – Initial Home Visit: This stage in the total joint recovery program includes a home visit before surgery by a physical therapist and occupational therapist. During this visit, the goal is to assess your current physical condition and your home environment. This step is available as approved by the payer.
  • Step 2 – Education and Information: This step involves educating the patient and their loved ones or caregivers on important joint replacement information. A therapist will provide educational material on the care that the patient will need to recover from joint replacement surgery and important home safety tips.
  • Step 3 – Individualized Treatment Program: During this step, the multidisciplinary team of occupational therapist and physical therapist develop an individualized treatment plan specifically for the patient.
  • Step 4 – Joint Replacement Rehabilitation: After a patient's discharge from inpatient care at the hospital, their team of therapists will provide the physician ordered therapy and important education regarding typical daily living activities. This rehabilitative therapy step will help individuals to return to their normal, everyday routine as soon as possible.
